$5,000 Minimum Guaranteed First Place at Every Divisional Tournament

ATHENS, Ala. – Thomas Arens won the first event of the Maryland Division ABA Open Series March 31, 2018. Running out of Smallwood State park near Marbury Maryland, the Purcellville Va angler caught five bass weighing 21.87 pounds. He anchored his bag with a 6.16-pound kicker and took home a check for $5000.

“We stayed right in Mattawoman creek all day,” Arens said. “We fished shallow all day. I threw a lipless crankbait in craw color and a spybait in white bone color”

In second for the boaters, Ricky T Windsor of Huntingtown  Md landed a five-bass tournament limit going 20.35 pounds with a 5.98-pound kicker. He collected $1630 for the effort.

“It aint no secret, I fished in Belmont with a black and blue chatter bait, that’s all I throw here,  in the grass, ”Windsor said“

Mike A. Moran of Ruffs Dale PA took third for the boaters with five bass going 19.52 pounds. He anchored his catch with a 4.96-pound kicker to earn  $1090.

“All I did was throw a red squarebill crankbait in about 10’ of water,” Moran said. “

Finishing fourth, Danny Rodriguez of Monkton Md, landed a five-bass limit for 19.49 pounds including a 5.07-pound kicker. Ryan Ingalls of Fairfax Va rounded out the top five boaters with five bass at 18.98 pounds topped by a 6.50-pound kicker.

The biggest bass for the boaters was caught by: Timothy Reams of Morgantown Wv that weighed 6.77 lbs. and Reams pocketed $850.


In the Co-Angler Division, Robert Halter of Upper Marlboro MD won with three bass going 11.86 pounds. He sealed his victory with a 4.72-pound kicker to pocket a check for $1800.

“I threw a red chilly craw colored rattle trap. I just wripped it threw the grass,”Halter said.

Taking second for the co-anglers, Larry Wigmore of Smyrna Md brought in a three-bass division limit weighing 10.77 pounds including a 5.82-pound kicker. He collected $$650 for the effort.

“I fished 5’ of water with a white/chartruse spinnerbait with gold blades. I also Fished in 11’ of water up by the bridge with a dropshot  with a ringworm in green pumpkin.,”Wigmore said. “

Roland L Gittings of  Perryville Md placed third among the co-anglers with three bass going 10.63 pounds. He anchored his catch with a 3.82-pound kicker to earn $450.

“I fished shallow with a black chatterbait. I caught about 10 fish all day,”Gittings said. “

In fourth place among the co-anglers, Joseph Wald of California Md brought in three bass for 9.59 pounds including a 3.33-pound kicker. Michael Messick of Mechanicsville Md finished in fifth place with three bass at 9.55 pounds topped by a 3.68-pound kicker.

The biggest bass for the co-anglers was caught by: Gregory Ebel from Davidsonville Md that weighed 6.94 lbs., He caught it on his Revo SX reel,  Ebel pocketed $320 and a Revo SX reel valued at $169.

The top 5 boaters and co-anglers also received Sirius XM neck gators from Sirius XM.






At this event American Bass anglers and Sirius XM also gave away a Sirius Xm Weather Receiver to Danny Moffat Jr. to be installed on his boat to bring him Live weather right on his GPS. It is valued at $699.

Slated for April 14th, the next divisional tournament will be held on the Chesapeake bay out of Anchor Boats Marina near North East Md.  At the end of the season, the best anglers from across the nation advance the 2019 Ray Scott Championship to be held at Lake Eufaula in Eufaula, Alabama, April 2019.
