John Simonof Joins SiriusXM Marine Weather Pro Staff Team

September 20, 2017 (Athens, AL). John Simonof of Jacksonville, AR will promote SiriusXM Marine Weather and satellite radio as a Pro Staff angler through the American Bass Anglers Pro Staff program. John is running a SiriusXM wrapped Triton 21TrX boat and will fish events in multiple divisions in the Ram Open Series and Ram American Fishing Tour.

John retired from the Air Force after serving 30 years. In his last assignment, John was Chief of Quality Assurance for aircraft maintenance at Little Rock AFB. John is now teaching business courses at Pulaski Technical College and administers the Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery to high school students throughout central Arkansas. If John wasn’t busy enough, he also attends college full time and is in the dissertation phase of his Doctorate of Business Administration degree. John is also very busy with fishing, social media, and even produces his own YouTube videos. John has contributed quite often to both the ABA Magazine and social media websites with articles.

“I was excited when I got the call, and the more I learn about SiriusXM Marine Weather, the more I can leverage their technology to win more tournaments”, said John Simonof. “Adding the SiriusXM Marine Weather feature overlay on my GPS screen gives me a distinct advantage whenever the weather is a factor on a tournament day. I fish often in Oklahoma and wind and weather are quite frequently factors in tournaments. Now, I can make informed decisions about where to fish based on wind direction and speed and weather.  Being able to see storm and storm cell updates quickly, and where they are heading, I can avoid the brunt of storms and keep fishing productively. Instead of dodging storms cells, I can stay out of their path. I’ve tried using weather apps on my phone for years but screens are too small, my phone isn’t waterproof, and cell coverage on the lakes I fish is just not that great. With satellite coverage, I have a much better connection to current and forecast weather on a 12-inch screen”. I’m thankful for the opportunity and look forward to working closely with the SiriusXM Marine Team” concludes Simonof.

“John has the work ethic you just don’t see every day and puts 100% into whatever he does”, said Deacon Collins, American Bass Anglers Pro Staff Director. “John is also a very competitive angler and has already cashed in a $5,000 first place win this year in the Oklahoma division of the Ram Open Series. John also took in over $9,000 in contingency payouts for this event for a one-day tournament total of $14,070. $7,000 of the contingency money was from the Triton Gold program. He will be a great asset promoting SiriusXM Marine Weather. I couldn’t be happier to have him on the Team”, concludes Collins.

“John is a great addition to the SiriusXM Marine Pro Staff Team and he already has all the right equipment”, said Morris Sheehan, Owner of American Bass Anglers. “John runs a Triton 21 TrX, Mercury 250 ProXS pulled by a 1500 Ram Truck. I’ve known John for a long time, and it is great for him to obtain this opportunity."
