Kimbrough Wins $5000 on Lake Jordan

DeAndre Kimbrough of Tuscalossa, Al won the American Bass Anglers Ram Truck Open Series Alabama South tournament, held May 6TH on the Lake Jordan.

Running out of Bonners Point Landing in Wetumpka, Kimbrough caught five bass weighing 16.97 pounds including a 5.20-pound kicker largemouth. For the Boater Division victory, he took home $5000 for his win and an additional $580 for the big bass .

“I fished mostly the mid-lake area. The big bass was the first fish I caught this morning about five minutes after we started fishing. I caught my fish swimming a jig in the grass. It feels great to win one, I had to go look at the final standings again to make sure my name was on top.”  Kimbrough said.

In second for the boaters, Foster “Chip” Bradley of Bessemer, AL landed a five-bass tournament limit going 16.05 pounds. He collected $1000 for his catch.

“I fished up the river a few miles. I caught my fish swimming a jig and one later in the day deep on a football head jig. It was a better morning bite. I went about five hours without a bite today.” Bradley said.

Joseph Lamar of Marbury, AL placed third for the boaters with five bass going 15.90 pounds. He earned $650 for his catch.

“I caught my fish today up the river near the dam on a shaky-head and a Carolina-rig. I caught fish all day.” Lamar said.

In fourth place among the boaters, Anthony Goggins of Clanton, AL brought in five bass for 15.47 pounds.

Wesley Rushing of Abbeville, AL finished in fifth place with five bass at 15.30 pounds.

In the Co-Angler Division, Donnie Perkins of Eufaula, AL won with three bass going 8.22 pounds. He pocketed a check for $1000 for his win.

“I caught my fish on a Strikezone Lures shaky-head and Strikezone Lures spinnerbait. I had a good boater, we just went fishing and had fun today.”  Perkins said.

Taking second for the co-anglers, Eldred Lewis of Tuscaloosa, AL brought in a three-bass division limit weighing 8.17 pounds with a 3.60-pound kicker. He pocketed a check for $400 for his catch and $165 for the big bass.

“Most of my fish came on a shaky-head today but my big fish came swimming a jig around grass first thing this morning. I was fishing mid-lake points with grass on them.” Lewis said.

James Murphy of Phenix City, AL placed third among the co-anglers with three bass going 8.09 pounds. He earned $300 for his catch.

“I caught all my fish on a football head jig. I lost one this morning but I don’t know if it would have helped me today. I was fishing grass and rock to catch my fish today.” Murphy said.

In fourth place among the co-anglers, Danny Truelove of Cuba, AL brought in three bass for 7.11 pounds.

Hunter Dubose of Andalusia, AL finished in fifth place with three bass at 7.08 pounds.

Slated for June 24th, the next tournament will be held on Logan Martin out of Lakeside Park in Pell City, AL. At the end of the season, the best anglers from across the nation advance the 2018 Ray Scott Championship to be held on the Red River near Shreveport, Louisiana.
