Carroll Wins Tough One on Kentucky Lake

David B. Carroll of Manitou, KY won the Kentucky division Ram Truck Open Series event at Kentucky Lake on May 7, 2016. Carroll caught an 18.18 pound bag of Kentucky Lake bass to win $5000. “I caught my fish dragging a peanut butter and jelly colored football jig with a green pumpkin trailer. I targeted secondary points and little breaks off of the bank. My bigger fish were caught first thing in the morning and I was able to cull a few times. The day got off to a good start and I just tried to keep it going. Also, I wanted to thank Next Level Tournament Fishing by David Gnewikow. Ever since I took his class, I been able to catch more fish and know how to have the proper mental attitude it takes to win at the next level,” said Carroll.

Brent Anderson of Kingston Springs, TN finished in second place with 15.82 pounds to win $1234. “I was flipping a Dirty Sanchez colored Reaction Innovations Sweet Beaver about 80 miles from here in about a foot of water.  It was really slow today and I caught about one fish per hour,” said Anderson.

Billy T. Schroeder of Paducah, KY finished in third place with 14.09 pounds winning $823. “I used a green pumpkin jig with a Zoom trailer. I caught my biggest fish of the day in about 21-22 feet of water. She had not spawned yet, so there are crazy fishing conditions out there.  I was able to catch fish all day and was able to cull a few times,” said Schroeder.

Joey Schmidt of Hickory, KY caught the 6.51 Boater Big Bass of the day to win $450 from the Big Bass Pot. Schmidt used an Abu Garcia reel to catch his Big Bass and was awarded a new Abu Garcia Revo SX reel valued at $159.99 through the Abu Garcia Revo Big Bass Bonus program. “I caught my big bass using a shaky head with a green pumpkin candy trick worm with a 3/16 ounce Picasso football shaky head.  I was using an Abu Garcia Reel when I caught this fish,” said Schmidt.

Dean Hesse of Brandenburg, KY was the co-angler champion of the Ram Truck Open Series event held on May 7, 2016 at Kentucky Lake. His 9.97 pound limit was worth $1620. “I caught my fish on a Sexy Shad colored spinnerbait in about three feet of water. We targeted pea gravel flats. I caught all of my fish by about 8:30 and after that, it was done,” said Hesse.

Ray Dickens of Marion, IL finished in second place on the co-angler side with 9.77 pounds to win $539. “I was dragging a Carolina rig all day with a green lizard on it. I caught most of my fish by 10:00. After that, it was pretty slow.  I had a great draw for this event and it turned out to be a great day,” said Dickens.

William Isabell of Pleasantview, TN brought in 7.82 pounds to finish in third place and win $359. “I used a green pumpkin jig and a 1.5 squarebill. I only had three bites all day which was good enough for to get finish third,” said Isabell.

Co-angler Big Bass honors went to Mike Blumer of Louisville, KY after bringing in a 5.58 pound largemouth to win a total of $462 for fourth place and the Big Bass Pot. “I was flipping bushes on Barkley, using a green pumpkin Brush Hog,” said Blumer.

Ram Truck Open Series anglers can take advantage of the “no boat on boat draw” format along with huge payouts for the 2016 season. First place boaters can win a guaranteed $5000 first place, regardless of number of entries. Payouts will increase to $6000 for the first place boater with a 100 boat field. Over the course of four divisional events and the area championship, anglers will be competing for a spot in the 2017 Ray Scott Championship.

Lots of contingency money is up for grabs during the 2016 Ram Truck Open Series Series season. Anglers participating in the Triton Gold program can earn up to $7,000 at 2016 divisional events and up to $50,000 at the 2017 Ray Scott Championship. Anglers can also take advantage of other programs such as T-H Marine Atlas Rewards, Power Pole Captain's Cash, Garmin Grand Giveaway, Livingston Lures Cash for Big Bass, Abu Garcia Revo Big Bass Bonus, Maui Jim Bonus, and Mercury/Motorguide bonus money.
