$5,000 Minimum Guaranteed First Place at Every Divisional Tournament

Long Wins $6300 at Alabama North Opener

Chris C. Long of Decherd, TN won the Alabama North division Ram Truck Open Series opener at Neely Henry Lake on April 2, 2016. Long had a 21.89 pound limit to take home a check for $6300. “I caught most of my fish flipping a jig. I was fishing very shallow. My trolling motor was kicking up mud the entire time. I stayed off of the river away from everyone else and I was able to cull about eight times to get to my winning weight,” said Long.

Chris Newell of Phil Campbell, AL finished in second place with 18.32 pounds winning $1881. “I caught all of my fish using a spinnerbait in 3-5 feet of water, targeting docks. I caught fish all day and I probably caught around 12 keepers, culling a few times,” said Newell.

Tim Hurst of Oxford, AL finished in third place with 18.25 pounds to win $1254. Hurst used a black/blue jig for his day’s catch.

Josh Oliver of Anniston, AL brought in the 5.75 pound boater Big Bass of the day winning $990 from the Big Bass Pot. Oliver was swimming a jig through the grass, when the Big Bass struck.

There were 108 boaters registered for this Ram Truck Open Series event.

William C. Bright of Rainesville, AL was the co-angler champion of the Ram Truck Open Series event held on April 2, 2016 at Neely Henry Lake. Bright had an 11.07 pound limit to win $1900. “I caught my fish on a swimbait in about seven feet of water. My boater led me around and we were able to catch fish all day long,” said Bright.

Alan Barrett of Cullman, AL finished in second place on the co-angler side with 9.57 pounds. Barrett also had the co-angler Big Bass of the day, a 5.31 pounder, to win a total of $882 for the day. “I was swimming a jig up the river. The morning was a little slow for me and I caught most of my fish around mid-afternoon in shallow water,” said Barrett.

Roy Yother Red Bank TN brought in 8.29 pounds to finish in third place and win $411. “I caught my fish flipping and pitching in shallow water. I caught my best fish in the morning and I was able to cull a few times,” said Yother.

Ram Truck Open Series anglers can take advantage of the “no boat on boat draw” format along with huge payouts for the 2016 season. First place boaters can win a guaranteed $5000 first place, regardless of number of entries. Payouts will increase to $6000 for the first place boater with a 100 boat field. Over the course of four divisional events and the area championship, anglers will be competing for a spot in the 2017 Ray Scott Championship.

Lots of contingency money is up for grabs during the 2016 Ram Trucks Open Series Series season. Anglers participating in the Triton Gold program can earn up to $7,000 at 2016 divisional events and up to $50,000 at the 2017 Ray Scott Championship. Anglers can also take advantage of other programs such as T-H Marine Atlas Rewards, Power Pole Captain's Cash, Garmin Grand Giveaway, Livingston Lures Cash for Big Bass, Abu Garcia Revo Big Bass Bonus, Maui Jim Bonus, and Mercury/Motorguide bonus money.
