Greene Takes $5000 Win at Lake Seminole

Ken Greene of Lumpkin, GA won the Georgia Division Ram Truck Open Series opener at Lake Seminole on January 30, 2015. Greene brought in a 16.87 pound limit of Seminole bass to win $5000 for first place and $640 from the Big Bass Pot. “I caught the majority of my fish flipping with a Big Bot Fightin’ Frog in Hematoma color. Yesterday, I just picked up my flipping stick after not being able to catch much of anything. I just started looking for little mats along the river channel and just flipping into them. I didn’t catch but five fish today, so it’s not like I wore them out. These clear skies really helped the flipping bite for me,” said Greene.

Michael Smith of Andalusia, AL finished in second place with 16.45 pounds earning $1445. “I caught all of my fish on a 1/2 ounce, red colored Red Eye Shad. The big key to that bite is the tackle. Anyone that has gone out here and tried to rip a Trap through the hydrilla all day, knows that it will wear you out. I throw mine on a 7’6” Fitzgerald cranking rod that is soft enough to keep from losing fish when they hit it. Losing fish on a Trap is a big problem for a lot of people. Every fish that I had bite my bait using that softer rod had the bait completely in its mouth. I was also using 20 pound Seaguar fluorocarbon to help keep it up over the grass and an 8.1 gear ration reel. All that combined, really helped get my five bites today,” said Smith.

Third place in the Seminole event went to Kip Carter of Social Circle, GA with 14.69 pounds winning $963. “It was a pretty simple day for me. I flipped hyacinth all day with a black/blue Sweet Beaver and a 1 ¼ ounce weight. That is pretty much it. I was just in a little two acre lake that I just made circles in for eight hours,” said Carter.

Sean Coleman of Ball Ground, GA brought in an 8.09 pound largemouth to claim Boater Big Bass. Unfortunately, Coleman was not in the Big Bass Pot and the Big Bass cash award went to Ken Greene with the second largest Big Bass of the event. “I caught it right here in Spring Lake We cranked all day and it was just miserable. I finally threw a Chatter Bait about four casts and the big one nailed it. I never caught another fish all day,” said Coleman.
