ABA Opens Rolls into Neely Henry for the third stop

ATHENS, Ala. - The Alabama North division of the American Bass Anglers Open Series will hold its third tournament of the season on April 28, 2018 on Neely Henry in Gadsden, Alabama.

Last year Andy Kilgore of Kingston, GA won the American Bass Anglers Open Series Alabama North tournament, held May 6, 2017 at Neely Henry. Kilgore caught five bass weighing 15.64 pounds. He had a 3.73-pound kicker to anchor his bag and took home $5000 for his efforts. He took home an additional $7000 from Triton Gold and $1,000 from Mercury Marine giving him an overall winnings of $13,000. “I used a square bill crankbait on rocks. I culled a few times to get my overall weight," stated Kilgore.

The competitors will launch at Coosa Landing, located at 200 Lake Street East, Gadsden, Alabama 35903. Registration begins at 4p.m. at the tournament trailer set up at Coosa landing on Friday, April 28, 2018 Anglers will blast off Saturday at 6:30 a.m. or safe light. The weigh-in will begin at 3:00 p.m.

Division 10 Heads to Sam Rayburn

ATHENS, Ala. – The South East Texas division of the American Bass Anglers Open Series will hold its first event of the 2018 season on April 28th in Brookeland, TX on Sam Rayburn Reservoir.  Sam Rayburn is known for its monster bags this time of year so don’t miss your chance on the excitement.

The competitors will launch at the public ramp in Brookeland, located at County Road 225 adjacent to the Umphrey Pavilion.  Anglers will begin fishing at safe light with the weigh-in starting at 3 p.m.  Onsite registration and check in will be from 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM Friday Apr 27th at the Umphrey Pavilion.

Chesapeake Bay- rescheduled from April 14th

ATHENS, Ala. – The Maryland division of the ABA Open Series will hold its next event of the season on May 5th, 2018, on the Chesapeake Bay.

The competitors will launch from  Anchor Boats Marina, located at 36 Iroquois Dr, North East, MD 21901.  Anglers may begin fishing at 6 a.m. or safe light. Jones to Bank 13k from Lake Eufaula OK

ATHENS, Ala. – Chris Jones of Pocola, OK won the American Bass Anglers Open Series Oklahoma Division, held March 10th on Lake Eufaula.

Running out of Eufaula Cove, warm sunny weather set up the week for yet again, a cold and rainy tournament day.  With the water level stabilized but still stained from run off from the week prior, it was a long run for most to find cleaner water.  There was a 100% chance of rain for Saturday, so it wasn’t a matter of if, but when.  It held off until 11:00 AM and never let up.

Thomas Guthke Wins $5000.00 on Lake Hartwell

ATHENS, Ala. – Thomas Guthke of Anderson, South Carolina won the American Bass Anglers Open Series event held 4/21/2018 on Lake Hartwell. Running out of Green Pond Landing in Anderson, South Carolina, Thomas weighed in a five bass limit weighing 15.72 pounds. His catch was anchored by a bass weighing 4.55 pounds. For the win Thomas took home a check for $5000.00.

Stracner Wins $12,000 on Lake Martin 

ATHENS, Ala. –   Josh Stracner won the American Bass Anglers Open Series Alabama South tournament, held April 21, 2019 on Lake Martin.

Running out of Wind Creek State Park in Alexander City, AL the Vandiver, AL angler caught five bass weighing 16.91 pounds anchored by a 4.21-pound kicker. For the Boater Division victory, took home a check for $5000 for his win and an additional $7000* for Triton Gold.

South Carolina Heads To Lake Hartwell

ATHENS, Ala. – The South Carolina Division of the Open Series will hold its third event of the season on Lake Hartwell on 4/21/2018.

The competitors will launch from Green Pond Landing located at 470 Green Pond Road Anderson South Carolina 29626.  Anglers will begin fishing at safe Light until 3:00 PM. To enter, anglers fishing the boater division pay $200.00 per single day events with the co-anglers paying $100.00 for the single day events. The first place boater is guaranteed a minimum of $5000.00.

ATHENS, Ala. – The Alabama South Division of the ABA Open Series will host the second event of the 2018 season April 21, 2018, on Lake Martin in Alexander City, AL.

The competitors will launch at Wind Creek State Park, located at 4325 Alabama Hwy 128, Alexander City, AL, 35010. Anglers may begin fishing at 6:00a.m. or safe light.  Milby Takes the Win at Kentucky Lake

Ted Milby of Greensburg, Kentucky won the American Bass Anglers Kentucky Open Series event, held 4/15/18 on Kentucky Lake. Running out of Paris Landing near Buchanan, TN, Milby brought back a five-fish limit that locked in the scales at 22.01 pounds. Ted took home $5,000 for his victory.

Flash Butts Wins $5920.00 On Lake Gaston

ATHENS, Ala. – Flash Butts of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina won the American Bass Anglers Open Series event held 4/14/2018 on Lake Gaston. Running out of Holly Grove Marina in Bracey Virginia, Flash weighed in a five-bass limit weighing 15.97 pounds, with a6.25 pound kicker. For the win he took home a check for $5000.00. For having the biggest bass weighed in for the boaters Flash took home an additional $920.00.  Also, for having the biggest bass of the tournament and because the bass was caught using an ABU Garcia reel Flash took home an ABU Garcia reel valued at $160.00.

Wild Weekend on Ross Barnett

ATHENS, Ala. – Larry Rochelle of Canton, MS won the American Bass Anglers Open Series Mississippi Division, held April 15th on Ross Barnett. Running out of Tommy’s Trading Post and originally scheduled for Saturday, the tournament had been postponed due to severe weather. Gusting winds, heavy rain and tornadoes threatened the area, so the event was postponed, and everyone took cover. The storms turned out to be as bad as forecasted then cleared out of the area to open up the next day for the tournament.  An extreme drop in temperature Sunday morning with post front conditions made it difficult on the anglers but we still had some nice fish brought in.  At the end of the day there were 5 boaters able to break 16 lbs.

Maryland Open Series 04/14/2018 Tournament Cancelled


ATHENS, AL - The National Weather Service has issued a Small Craft Advisory from 9 am EST Friday April 13 until 6 pm EST Saturday April 14. Due to this advisory, April 14 Chesapeake tournament in Maryland has been canceled. This event will be rescheduled as soon as possible.
